MSG- The additive you need to stay away from

Monosodium glutamate (MSG), once a well used food flavor enhancer is making a come back in the United States. The rest of the world uses MSG as any other ingredient. Imported foods commonly contain MSG. So you say “what’s the big deal?” The deal is that it is toxic to brain cells. The influx of glutamate (MSG) to the brain in excess amounts can turn it in to “excitotoxin”, which is an ingredient that is absorbed through brain cells that excite them to the point of dysfunction. Glutamate is also a naturally occurring amino-acid that the brain uses for energy, but too much can cause irreparable damage by destroying brain cells. Another widely used excitoxin is aspartate (also known as NutraSweet). So, the big deal seems to be additives that over stimulate brain cells should be eliminated from one’s diet. Look at labels before you buy food, especially processed foods, canned broth, spices, seasonings, flavorings, and bullion flavorings.
