Body acidic environment can lead to arthritis. In addition, excess body fat can put stress on joints and old injuries. Food allergies and lack of digestive system bacteria also contribute to arthritis.
According to Balch & Stenlger (2004) there are 3 forms of Arthritis:
• Osteoarthritis – is caused by the degeneration of the primary large, weight bearing joints of the body.
• Rheumatoid Arthritis – is thought to be caused by autoimmune conditions, wherein our own immune system attacks our joints. Joints most commonly the small joints of the hand- become tender, swollen, and even deformed.
• Gout – caused by a buildup in the body of uric acid, which is found in high amounts in animal meats. When the level of uric acid rises to unhealthful levels in the body, it crystallizes causing sharp needle- like pain.
Recommended foods- flaxseed and cold water fish (salmon and mackerel) have anti-inflammatory properties. Eat lots of raw vegetables and whole grains to sweep away minerals and acid build up as well as to keep your digestive system free of harmful bacteria. Broccoli and cauliflower are especially helpful. (Balch & Stengler, 2004)
Need good Ph (Alkalinity) as it affects cartilage growth and nutrient absorption. Also, need antioxidant in raw fruits and vegetables supplements to stop free radicals that cause variety of arthritis. (Balch & Stengler, 2004)
Foods high in sulfur repair cartilage and bone, such as asparagus, cabbage, garlic, or onion everyday. A glass of water every two waking hours not only to help rid the body of toxins but prevents dehydration, which is also associated with arthritis. Raw pineapple has an enzyme called Bromelain, which reduces inflammation. (Balch & Stengler, 2004)
Avoid foods that are acidic, saturated fats, fried foods, dairy, refined carbohydrates, pasta, bread, caffeine, meat, eggs and refined sugars and man made sweeteners. (Balch & Stengler, 2004)
Some foods can trigger allergic reactions like tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and peppers. Stay off these for six weeks and see if there is any improvement. Since these items contain a substance called Solanine and can trigger allergic reactions on arthritis. (Balch & Stengler, 2004)
Supplements like Glucosamine sulfate reduces joint pain and can rebuild cartilage. It can also be taken with Condrotin. MSM, an anti-inflammatory, which contain sulfur an integral part of cartilage. Fish oil contains three fatty acids that reduce joint inflammation and promote joint lubrication. High potency multivitamins rich in antioxidants help to prevent joint tissue destruction. Take as directed on container. In addition, Jell-O or Gelatin has the same ingredients as chicken bone marrow, which is a great source of minerals for the prevention of arthritis. (Balch & Stengler, 2004)
*Prior to taking supplements, it is important to have your internal PH level alkaline vs. acidic, because low PH will mean poor nutrient assimilation. Low PH deactivates certain enzymes that eat the protein of viruses and bacteria. Taking sufficient calcium, magnesium and Zinc along with fruits and vegetables will help maintain an alkaline environment within your body.
